Apples and Orchids
Take my open hand
Stained only slightly
With dirt
Apples and orchids
With their beckoning white blossoms
You said we could plant
Beside each other
The roots
Winding around each other
In a spiraling mandala
Of snake skin
Faded velvet
Rough to the touch
Wild and shivering
A kiss on the forehead
The sweetest sigh
Appreciating the bumpy road
That leads back
To where the light
Crosses and uncrosses Sarah Mahina Calvello
