Driving Down Pescadero, poem

 leaning out the window

wind caressing your hair

as we pass

winding roads

and open spaces

I learned

to feel happy

on these family drives

we sang old Beatles song's

and laughed

mustard flowers brushing us carefully

as we walked by

lingering on sand

dunes of ice plants

with our picnic lunches

bending to the winds call

~Sarah Mahina Calvello (1996)
